Master Drawing, Not Outlining
Apr 09, 2024Let me show you all the types of projects you can create on your iPad ⬇️
Quick sketches just like on paper, but way more flexible and mobile (just 2 brushes used: black pen + markers, all digital).
Complex detailed 3D illustrations of interiors and exteriors.
Collages in mixed drawing techniques (quick sketch + drawing of a facade + quick textures).
Integrated collages…
…based on which you then create 3D views.
PNG libraries to speed up the drawing process.
Levelling up computer models.
Basically, we combine the flow of traditional materials with the precision of realistic renders, all while adding your own personal touch.
And every drawing starts with a line, OUR LINE, right? That's the power of digital drawing!
👇
These are my Top-3 all-time-favorite brushes for every project type:
See, some of them are identical to real materials! Just WAY MORE flexible, easier to use, and with 1000+ colors in just one drawing tablet.
Speaking about real materials. This is how I was sketching exteriors and interiors back in 2015-2016!
See, I kept my signature line, hatching and depth, but boosted my creativity and skills with digital.
A fact about me I haven’t told you. In 2015, I was seriously thinking about applying for an architecture school at a technical university either in Hamburg or Berlin. Why? Because I was seriously in love with travel and architectural sketching!
LOVED that technique but was frustrated about having to shop at an art supply store almost every week to buy more and more paper blocks, brushes, markers etc.
This is one of the first assignments from my interior architecture studies! And this is how I re-invented this assignment in my own style! Only 2 brushes used. This sketch is part of my brand new iPad architectural sketching course.
Another quick sketch drawn on my iPad, but this time, as part of an exterior collage:
In order to be able to draw quick and detailed sketches, you HAVE to know everything about depth, line philosophy, shadows, and of course perspective.
Knowing how to draw authentically, and not just outlining photos and computer models, is CRUCIAL for a successful career in drawing, design, and architecture. Sometimes, we have to illustrate our ideas and present them quickly, stylistically, and uniquely to our clients.
That’s why, in my course at the ASDB Academy, we learn HOW TO DRAW, and not how to just outline photos and computer models. Anyone can outline. But it doesn’t make them an artist.
Learn every aspect of sketching exteriors, quick scribbles, lively greenery and water, not to mention master light and shadows in the most effective technique:
>> Draw architecture with me here!
Speaking about lively water and greenery. I teach you how to illustrate it in with artistic technique while maintaining the initial idea.
‼️ I don’t see any sense in drawing photorealistic trees and other outdoor elements in our sketches. Then, our sketches would lose their unique touch, and my question then is “Why sketch if you try to imitate computer renderings?”
Instead, we learn how to draw water in such a way so that it more looks like an impressionist art. The function of greenery is to add depth and atmosphere to the exterior, but not be the center of focus.
Lots of love,
